This month in my acting class (ages 7-12) we have been learning about the 3 Tools of the Actor: Body, Voice, and Imagination. Each week we explored a different tool and today we reviewed them all by doing a craft I created and want to share with you, lovely reader.
Our very own Actor Toolbox!
And inside we put the tools we made!
I made the toolboxes by cutting two rectangles out of construction paper. One is the size of a whole envelope (then I just cut a small curve out of the top of it) and the second one I cut long enough to cover the flap of the envelope. Then I cut out a handle and a little latch and glued it all together. It was really easy to assemble and if our class was longer, I could have easily had the kids make their own toolbox.
In class the kids worked on their tools. I gave them an index card for each tool and they got to come up with a picture idea to represent each tool. Below are my examples. On my first card I am showing the kids how all bodies are awesome, including those with two left hands….whoopsidaisey! The ones the kids came up with were much more creative and colorful!
Their toolbox sheets will be added to their actor binders. I thought it was a cool, hands-on, visual way to help us remember September’s lessons and the kids really enjoyed getting to design and color.
